BECKY GILMOUR

ADVENTURE ATHLETE
MENTAL HEALTH ADVOCATE
WRITER & SPEAKER

Becky is an adventure athlete from Ireland, with a strong heart for mental health advocacy. She uses her work and spirit for adventure to create a loud narrative for mental health, recovery, and life after trauma.

In 2025, she became the first person to skateboard the world’s longest coastal route for suicide awareness: raising over £15,000 for Samaritans after the loss of a very close friend.

And she’s just getting started: this year Becky is planning a series of challenges across various disciplines and countries to continue raising funds for mental health supporting charities. She is always grateful for collaborations and sponsorships that keep her doing what she’s doing- both during her training in Ireland and for logistical support on the road. You can read more about what is in store for 2026 below.

Becky has developed her own brand, ‘Keep On’ where she has designed merch that works to develop a community in which people feel less alone, and stands as a reminder and testament to the strength of those who are persevering through adversity. Sales from these products also support Becky as she trains & sets out on fundraisers.

2026.

This year, Becky is completing a series of expeditions both in Ireland and abroad to raise donations for mental health support in Uganda.

The first of which, is an 800KM, four province paddle through Ireland beginning on March 7th. This will include both the River Shannon and Royal Canal, and can be followed on instagram here.

This trip is done alongside Adam Griffin. It is self- supported and they will be carrying all of their own gear on their paddleboards while camping through the trip.

Becky’s work widely supports and advocates for mental health awareness and strives to remind those struggling of their resilience and perseverance.

Last year, she raised over £15,000 for the Samaritans, and through 2026 plans to fundraise for a mental health team in Kiwoko Hospital, Uganda.

Becky has personally travelled through Uganda and worked alongside this team and volunteered at Kiwoko hospital for over a collective year, visiting in both 2018 and 2023.

Here she befriended Derek, a psychiatrist who is doing phenomenal work across three districts working with a team from the hospital. He is one of 70 in the whole country: which work to provide services for a population of 45 million people.

Derek and his team put in significant efforts to reach as many people as they can, but the hospital have been low on funding in recent times. This means they cannot afford to provide patients with their medications and treatments, which will inevitably lead to relapse, having large social, financial and emotional impacts. The mental health team has also been reduced due to an inability to support all the workers within this area.

Becky’s goal this year is to keep this team on, provide them with the support that they need, and the medication required for their patients.
